Every October, hundreds of patients, families, and providers lace up their shoes for one of the biggest events on ANC’s calendar: the National Kidney Foundation Kidney Walk. This year, as our team gears up to hit the pavement again, we sat down with Ella Harpole, PA-C, who has attended the walk nearly every year since joining ANC in 2022, to talk about what keeps her ,and so many of us, coming back.
A Walk Built on Connection
For Harpole, the Kidney Walk isn’t about crossing a finish line. It’s a low-key, casual chance to spend time with colleagues outside the clinic, often with family in tow. Many attendees are kidney transplant recipients, walking alongside the very families who supported them through diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. It’s encouraging to see everyone rallying behind one another and celebrating the progress they’ve made together, side by side with the people who helped them get there.
Find Us at the Booth
Each year, ANC hosts a booth at the event, and it’s become a natural meeting point for our team. It’s where staff gather for photos, hand out a few keepsakes and business cards, and catch up with familiar faces before the walk kicks off. If you’ve never stopped by, keep an eye out for us this year!
Fun Traditions Worth Watching For
Part of what makes the walk memorable each year is the small stuff: past events have featured a costumed kidney mascot making the rounds, surprisingly good snacks along the route, and, a fan favorite among our team, a new custom-designed ANC t-shirt each year. Look for our colorful shirts on walk day; they’re always a highlight and a fun way to show your support.
